20th Century Fox to produce marriage equality film after historic ruling

Following the historic ruling by the Supreme Court, 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to adapt the story behind Jim Obergefell's legal action that resulted in same-sex marriage being legalized nationwide.

"Love Wins" trended internationally on social media as people across America and the world celebrated the Supreme Court's decision which tore down the barriers to same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

After the Supreme Court's ruling, entertainment figures from across the industry took to social media to celebrate while President Obama addressed the nation and spoke about the long struggle the LGBT community had endured to make history happen.

According to the NY Times, Fox 2000, will take over the project which will be produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. The film's development and production will take an estimated two years to complete.

The studio has also acquired the rights to a yet unreleased book "21 Years To Midnight" penned by Obergefell along with investigative journalist Debbie Cenziper, renowned for her work in exposing corruption in the Miami Housing agency which earned her a Pulitzer Prize.

Fox 2000 is currently looking for a screenwriter to come onboard for the development of the film which will tentatively be released in 2017.
