Avatar 2, 3 and 4 the biggest movie franchise in history?

Avatar 2,3 and 4 in pre-production

James Cameron is busy preparing a massive undertaking : To shoot and direct Avatar 2, 3 and 4 simultaneously.

With the global success of ‘Avatar’ firmly in the minds of investors and audiences, the much-anticipated Avatar 2 sequel is just the tip of the iceberg. By filming 3 sequels back-to-back, Cameron will be making, quite possibly, the largest movie franchise in history.

If all the ‘Avatar’ sequels grossed $2 billion each they would accumulate a whopping $6 billion in turnover. The overall total of all 4 films could reach $10-$12 billion, if the success of the sequels matched that of the original. This would eclipse the earnings of the Star Wars, the James Bond, and the Harry Potter franchises.

Cameron has made the world’s biggest blockbusters and his filmmaking continues to capture minds. He has been at the forefront of technology for more than two decades. When ‘Terminator’ came out in 1984 it started a new era of sci-fi genre movies. Again in 1991 when ‘Terminator 2’ came out, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger once-more, it made a massive impact on the whole culture of the blockbuster machine.
