BBC Children in Need : The people making a difference

The BBC Children in Need telethon is just over a month away and communities have been coming together to raise funds for children across the country.

Every year, people from all walks of life come together to raise money to help disadvantaged children. The creative industries and the media also play a big part in gathering support for the show, which features a host of performances and funny sketches every year.

Despite the recession, the public have overwhelmingly backed fundraising efforts, and people continue to contribute generously. In 2012, £46 million was distributed throughout the UK from previous fundraising efforts. As Britain's main televised charity event draws nearer, take a look at some of the upcoming fundraisers and see how you can contribute:

BBC Children in Need projects

Blue performance - London

Blue will take to the stage and perform as the Jersey Boys for a special one-night performance on October 11th. The songs, based on the musical 'Jersey Boys' will tell the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The band will perform at London's Prince Edward Theatre, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £80 and 50% will go directly to BBC Children in Need. Fans can still book tickets via Lastminute.

Casualty TV stars dinner - Cardiff

Join the TV cast of Casualty at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff on November 1st for a special dinner and fundraising event.

Tickets for the dinner will cost £90 with 50% of ticket sales going directly to the BBC Children in Need Fund. Fans of the TV series can book tickets via the BBC to attend this star-studded event, which promises to be a fun gala dinner with all the glamour that comes with it. Better bring your best outfits!
