Winners of the 67th Golden Globe Awards

LOS ANGELES – Last night’s Golden Globe Awards was as glitzy and exciting as one can imagine with British comedian Ricky Gervais providing some lighthearted humour throughout the evening.

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ came out on top to win Best Motion Picture. To the surprise of many, ‘Up In The Air’ was awarded only one of its 6 nominations; Best Screenplay. However, despite the surprises, the awards were a big success for many, and is the first major award ceremony of the season.

Sandra Bullock won a much-deserved best actress and could be tipped for an Oscar when the ceremony takes place in March.

Martin Scorsese was honored the lifetime achievement Cecil B. DeMille Award alongside his longtime friend and collaborator Robert De Niro who told the audience “Marty sleeps, drinks and eats film,”.

Clooney on his way up again?

LOS ANGELES – Hollywood actor George Clooney is nominated for best performance this year for his portrayal of Ryan Bingham, a man who’s job it is to travel around the country firing people, until one day, his company unexpectedly grounds him.

‘Up In The Air’ couldn’t have come at a better time with the doom and gloom of the recession irking its way into every facet of American culture, with companies shedding jobs nationwide and industries going under.

Clooney’s recent comedic outings in ‘Leatherheads’ and ‘Burn After Reading’ failed to garner the critical acclaim that ‘Up in the air’ has received, and with awards season off to an exciting start, George may be in for a great year.

Co-star Vera Farmiga is also nominated for best supporting actress. Up In The Air leads this year ‘s Golden Globes Awards with six nominations.

An ‘Inglorious’ Golden Globes nomination

LOS ANGELES – Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’ has made the Golden Globes nomination list for best Motion Picture. Having received rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival and earning top spot at the US box office in 2009, Tarantino has never had it so good.

The film, which takes place During World War II, depicts the story of a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds”, who are chosen to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis.

Brad Pitt takes the lead as Lt. Aldo Raine, a vengeance-driven 1st Special Service Force officer in his first collaboration with Tarantino.

Inglorious Basterds faces a tough competition in this year’s selection with films such as James Cameron’s Avatar breaking new boundaries in animation and smashing box office records around the world

LOS ANGELES – Hollywood Actress Sandra Bullock has had a spectacular year, and continues to earn movies big box office dollars going into the new decade.

Ranked the highest earning actor in Hollywood in 2009 according to slashfilm.com, Sandra has made a spectacular comeback with a diverse range of roles in films including ‘The Proposal’ and ‘The Blind Side’. Her Golden Globe nomination for best performance in ‘The Blind Side’ has sealed her comeback.

From starring in action blockbusters like ‘Speed’ and ‘Demolition Man’ in the early 90s to portraying Jean Cabot in three time Oscar winning drama ‘Crash’ in 2004, Bullock has enlightened us with a vast range of performances yet has struggled in past years to establish herself as a top-tier actress.

With a new decade underway, we can only anticipate her career to continue to flourish. Good luck Sandra!

Stars line up for Golden Globes

LOS ANGELES – Chace Crawford, Cameron Diaz and Jodie Foster have been set as presenters at “The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” on Sunday, 17th January. British comedian Ricky Gervais will host the show.

They join presenters Cher, Keifer Sutherland, Kate Winslet, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Colin Farrell, Matthew Fox, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Neil Patrick Harris, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke and Sam Worthington.

Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio will present the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Award to Martin Scorsese for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.”

“The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” will be seen in more than 160 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements.
