Cloud Atlas underwhelms at the box office

Cloud Atlas doesn't bring in the green

It looks like Cloud Atlas has got off to a disappointing start with a weekend total that puts the epic $100 million feature far below its potential.

Ahead of its release, 'Cloud Atlas' was hyped because of its freaky fantasy structure. Although it received mixed reviews, it did have potential to fascinate audiences but the movie only brought in $9.4 million from over 2000 theatres this weekend putting it in 3rd place at the U.S Box Office.

The film also received some very negative publicity just as it was released for not using Asian actors in the casting. Caucasian actors were given 'Yellowface' makeup in the Korea story scenes. This didn't sit well with the Media Action Network for Asian Americans, who publicly condemned the lack of Asian talent in the movie.

The film, directed by the Wachowskis (Matrix Trilogy) stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Hugo Weaving.
