William Shatner admitted that he would be missing Leonard Nimoy's funeral and apologized to fans ahead of time, realizing he couldn't drop a charity event he had committed to.

The bad timing led to a frenzy of comments on social media about how he should be heading over to the funeral, with calls for him to get a private jet booked in Florida.

Shatner then made a series of tweets suggesting that everyone should come together on Sunday to remember Leonard Nimoy while stating that he had agreed to be in Florida to participate in a Red Cross Ball Saturday night and that he wouldn't have enough time to get back for the funeral.

SyFy will be running a special 5-hour Leonard Nimoy tribute during the day which will also feature his guest appearances in 'Star Trek : The Next Generation'.

Leonard Nimoy issued a series of tweets in his final days with a powerful message and a poetic goodbye that fans have shared more than 260,000 times.
