“The Fate of The Furious” is forecast to overtake “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as estimates suggest its Easter Weekend debut will push it past the $529 million mark.

Thanks to a spectacular launch in China to the tune of $190 million, “The Fate of The Furious” is exceeding record figures abroad and may just push it over Star Wars 7 to the largest global box office opening ever.

The film has also secured a strong $100 million opening in the U.S. while the franchise continues to gain traction with audiences internationally. Strong reviews and positive feedback from the fans have also contributed to bigger ticket sales overseas, and production on Furious 9 and 10 is planned to move ahead.

Starring Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Dwayne Johnson, “The Fate of the Furious” centres around a mysterious woman who seduces Dom into the world of terrorism.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, the film’s epic cast also includes appearances from 80s action star Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson and Charlize Theron.
