USA

The Academy Awards

The most prestigious of award ceremonies and regarded as the most influential industry event in the cinema industry. To make it on the Oscar shortlist is also of great benefit to filmmakers as this skyrockets anyone s credibility.

The Oscars has many competition categories including short films and documentary. The ceremony is usually held in February, although in 2010 it will be in March.

Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globes is the 2nd most anticipated film event of the year, and starts the awards season in the US. The ceremony is regarded as the pre-Oscar selection nod. Nominees and particularly winners have high chances of making the Oscar s competition shortlist. The ceremony takes place in January.

FRANCE

Les Césars

 

Les Césars is France’s most prestigious film awards ceremony. Every year, the awards ceremony sees the créme de la créme of the French industry come together at this major event. The awards called the Palmarés are given to winners and categories range from Best short films to Best first time director. The French film industry is one of the largest in the world, and produces over 200 feature films a year. The award ceremony takes place at the end of February.

UK

BAFTAS

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards are the Oscar awards equivalent for the UK, and highlights outstanding achievement in several ceremonies throughout the year including TV. The BAFTA Film Awards take place in February, usually within 2 weeks of the Oscars.

The UK’s film industry is fairly diverse with Indian and American productions often up for nominations in various categories. This is Europe’s main English language award ceremony for the film industry.
