Vin Diesel does the impossible

42 million fans later, Vin Diesel is one of the undisputed kings of the social media game. Having begun to connect with fans as early as the beginning of 09 on Facebook, he slowly but surely garnered an incredible following of people from all walks of life.

At the beginning of this year, the actor wrote three words to his followers : “Happy New Year”. It garnered 728,000 likes, more than 30,000 comments, and 2,800+ additional shares. All this, for a greeting on his Facebook page. Many companies and individuals would only dream of getting that level of attention so effortlessly. It’s this kind of engagement that’s really set a standard in my view and actors should take note. Communities are really worth the effort when you see this result, and it’s good for all.

The one on one engagement Vin Diesel has built has a lot of meaning to the fan base, and over the course of his movies, he’s really connected with them, and they have followed his journey. It’s far more personal to talk with the fans than get someone else to do it for you. I really admire his work in this level, and I wish more would do so.

If you look closely at Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, you will see in recent weeks he has posted regular snippets of his latest work, and kept the conversation going. A simple thumbs up from the action star in London gets him a quick 1.2 million likes. A snapshot of him on the set of Fast and Furious 6 creates a surge of comments that most news sites wouldn’t get in a year.

This ‘new standard’ and approach might seem like a daunting task, especially if you are starting from zero, but then why did you get in the game if you weren’t prepared to work to succeed? The web is where the conversation is going, and if you guys really want to stay at the top, get Vin to give you some tips!
