Hollywood Film Awards: Robert De Niro urges Americans to prevent tragedy

Last night’s star-studded Hollywood Film Awards was evidently a political one after actor Robert De Niro reminded voters of his position on the election.

Despite accepting the Hollywood Comedy Award, De Niro was deadly serious about where America was going and what he felt people needed to do on Tuesday.

Speaking on stage De Niro said:

“The shadow of politics is hanging over us more than anything else and it’s hard to think of anything else. we have the opportunity to prevent Tuesday from turning into a tragedy. So vote for Hillary Clinton.”

In contrast to his speech, host James Corden stated that “tonight is actually rigged,” making a reference to Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric.

Among the A-listers in the audience were Clint Eastwood, Natalie Portman, Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson who also received awards during the ceremony.

With just a day to go before the election, entertainment figures have been making their case on who should be President, turning to social media, and urging people to vote, however, none have been more upfront about the choices than De Niro.

It was only last month that the actor released a strongly worded video that slammed Trump, however, not everyone was convinced of his argument.

Actor Jon Voight was critical and turned to Twitter to scorn De Niro’s outburst.

With Hollywood leaning towards Clinton, Trump has found less support from the entertainment industry in this election but it’s now up to the American people to make their own decision on who should become President.
