IFC Films announced today that the company is acquiring North American rights to Saverio Costanzo’s 'Hungry Hearts' from Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International.

The film, written and directed by Costanzo, stars Adam Driver, Alba Rohrwacher and Roberta Maxwell, and was produced by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli of Wildside, together with Rai Cinema. The film was executive produced by Louis Tisné, Riccardo Neri, Olivia Sleiter and Chris Marsh. 'Hungry Hearts' had its world premiere at the 2014 Venice Film Festival, where it won both the Coppa Volpi Awards for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress for Driver and Rohrwacher. The film also had its North American premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

'Hungry Hearts' follows Jude, an American and Mina, an Italian. After a whirlwind romance, they get married and she becomes pregnant. But Mina becomes convinced that the child inside her is special and must be protected from all the pollution of the outside world. For the sake of his love for Mina, Jude plays along with her, until he reaches the point where he has to face a terrible truth: his son’s life is in danger.

“Saverio Costanzo astonished us all with this film, his first in the English language, a haunting exploration of a relationship with a startling conclusion,” says Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP of Acquisitions from Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Steinbauer on behalf of the filmmakers.

Radiant Films International is handling worldwide rights to the film.

IFC Films is a sister label to IFC Midnight and Sundance Selects, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
