Is Charice the next Taylor Swift?

Charice Pempengco recently released her new single ‘Louder’ ahead of her ‘Glee’ Finale performance, which was met with praise from her fans.

Does Charice have what it takes to make it big in the music industry to the degree of success of Taylor Swift or Mariah Carey? With an enchanting voice and a powerful charisma, Charice, at 19, is a star in the making.

Her music video hit ‘Pyramid’ with Lyaz was viewed over 30 million times, and brought her internet fame and recognition that comes with a huge online following. Making the transition to a mainstream pop sensation won’t be easy, but Charice has her own style, and is hugely talented. Making already several appearances on the hit TV series ‘Glee’ the teen sensation is just at the beginning of her career.

Where will Charice take it to next? Will she become an international star? Let’s wait and see.

You will be secluded to the Asia world.  You could’ve go stright to the top.  Just because you made a small fortune over the past couple years you think you’ve made it?  NO, you were meant for something way bigger than this.

    how can you compare someone like charice to Taylor swift? im not saying Taylor is not good, but Charice is on another level, she cant be compared to Teeny boppers like Taylor, Selena Gomez or Justin Bieber..     I can’t count the number of times I watched her in YOUTUBE at a 2008 tribute to Martin Luther King memorial singing GOD BLESS AMERICA- simply the best. I also can’t get get enough of the way the audience (skeptics at the start) gave her a standing ovation even before the song ended. And get this: she’s only 16 y at that time. Phenomenal indeed!

    I’ve been reading the comments about Charice and it brings smile on my face. It seems everyone who come accross seing her on TV got interested to see more of her videos and become addicted to Charice music. She’s a great singer and at a young age has already attained her dreams and some more. I wish her more power and success. I hope the radio stations play her songs. Any radio station that will play her music I’ll be listening on that station.

    When I first saw Charice, my reaction was the same as Oprah's, "Who is this girl? and "Why haven't I heard of her before?" I had to see this phenomenon for myself and, when I heard that she would be performing in Las Vegas in May 2009 in the second David Foster & Friends production, I flew 500 mi to see her (and attend her 17th birthday party the next day). As powerful as are her performances in her videos, they pale before seeing and hearing her live. I have since seen Charice perform two more times & even got to meet her (briefly) at a "meet 'n' greet" after one of the shows. I have never seen or heard anything like this young lady. When she appeared on an Italian TV show, the orchestra conductor said, "She doesn't have a gift from God — she IS a gift from God." My sentiments exactly. Or, as David Foster has said, "There is no way that she cannot be a superstar."

    I believe you are half right about Charice she has international standings especially with the Asian Nations and break new ground in entertainment community on a grander scale. Pinoy pride describes her best she bears it for her country providing proof there is very talent people from her country you just have to look for it.

    Anitako, I'm also from Houston and I heard Cha's Pyramid played on the radio almost everyday morning and afternoon when it was included in their playlist due to the enormous request of Houston Chasters last year. The lady host even read a short bio about Charice one time…

    Thanks iaian A. – just read your nice article about my super idol CHA (her short nickname). I'm a long time fan of hers from the start, i.e. when she competed in a TV singing contest in Manila (Little Big Star) at age 12 but only placed 3rd inspite of her superb performances which may have been a blessing in disguise since an avid fan posted her videos at Star King variety show in S. Korea on youtube. Then, wallah: Ellen D. saw her vids and rest is history. I love music and I have never seen a young prodigy like CHA – she's out of this world.
    I'm a Charice addict religously watching her youtube vids several times a day (I'm retired so have all the time). She's already an international star and slowly but surely being accepted by mainstream America. I am betting that her sophomore pop/r&b album will be on top of the billboard chart after it's release come late 2011 or early 2012. CHA might even make it to the next Grammy Awards! (She's only 19 so there's no rush though).

    jim, here in houston never i heard cha Pyramid play. i dont know y. does it have to do w/ the sale of the album-the only songs being played are the top hits? or lack of promotion? i see those singers w/ new cd/alb going from diff shows of the diff tv networks plugging their new gig? i only saw charice on Oprah, QVC,&after long mos. she guested on Regis *Kelley and Dr.Phil. (pyramid & In This Song") but i knew she went radio promo, but it didnt help on her song being play on the radio-thats what i dont understand-she came here in houston verizon wireless w/ iyaz and other performers for radio show promo but not 1 time they play her song, so far, but 1 texan cha fan said she heard once played. me i gave up the radio, i just play her alb charice and the 1st alb in pinas w/ her mom (inspiration?). i hoped this new alb will come out soon-now its either what? dec 2011 or yr 2012? oh well, just wait and see, shes busy right now, so we cant hurry her. its just missed missed her so much already.

    I listen to a lot of music and there are many, many talented and equally gifted singers out there with their own distinct and unmistakeable sound: Adele, Susan Boyle, Diana Krall, just to name a few. However, I cannot express what I feel when I hear Charice sings. At Rockefeller Center there was a moment in the song where it was pure magic and the expression on her face was indescribable. Same at Citadel Outlet with Halo, and Listen at the Oscar after party. When she sings and she's really in it, she becomes the music. I don't know how else to describe it.

    I'm 65 years old and I like to listen to any kind music but my favorites are classical and ballads. I never been hooked up to any artist until I've seen this young girl life story on Oprah. When I heard this little cute girl sang with such a powerful voice, I was stunt in disbelief. Yet when she sang Celine Dione's songs, it's just as beautiful as Celine's voice. Now I'm hooked up in youtube watching her and I can't even count how many times did I watch "Listen" at Oscar night event. I think this is one of the best she rendered on stage.

    Charice needs radio play, not just those rare tv plays on Glee (and the defunct Oprah) show, but you have to pay "payola" to the radio station managers so that they will give her playtime. However, that is quite expensive. My source is a very reliable website About.com article on how a pop song in the USA gets to no. 1 on the Billboard magazine's Hot 100 tally.

    Last artists I followed was Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban couple years ago, they both gone kinda cold and didn't deliver the songs I was hoping for. I didn't follow any artist for 2 years or so until this little filipino girl pop into my life. Couldn't stop watching her videos, listening to her musics, and supporting her ever since. With her one of a kind talent, she will become the biggest star in the world, it's just a matter of time.

    Mark, I 100% agree that Charice will be in the industry as long as she likes, but Taylor Swift is equally talented, maybe not vocally, but she writes her own songs and I'm sure will be producing her own as well as others. You can say flash in the pan for many of the other popular singers today, but not Taylor Swift. This is coming from a huge Charice fan, too.

    Yes, I believe she is the NEXT BIG THING. There's just something in her voice that is so captivating, something that makes me believe that she has the best voice in the planet right now and I can't even describe it. But I think her vocal coach Eric Vetro says it best. Her voice is MAGICAL. And what's scary is that her singing seems to improve tremendously by the day. She's just 19 now and I'm wondering what she can do at age 25! Couple that with LOADS of other TALENT (Which include dancing, rapping, and beatboxing) and a very ADORABLE personality and you get the most CHARISMATIC artist I have ever seen and heard. She really deserves to be a SUPERSTAR.

    For some reason, Charice is not getting the radio play needed to reach the masses in the US. Not understanding fully how the music industry works, but knowing she is one of the most talented singers I have ever heard, I'm left scratching my head. I'd love to see her get more exposure on AI or DWTS, and appearances on late night tv shows.

    Thanks for noticing Charice Mr Alexander. She has what it takes and more! Besides an incredible talent and a generous heart, according to David Foster her musical aptitude is like a laser beam. To me like that of a laser light, her musical talent is radiating an amazing range of frequencies (not to mention the span of her vocal range). Everytime I hear her sing I feel like she's supplying an indescribable kind of energy, and then again this energy increases its power, and whoah I before I knew it, I was already struck by the super powerful musical genius that is CHARICE! Let's watch together the laser beam trajectory of her career!

I've never in my life been so mesmerized by a singer upon first watching her performance of "Note to God" on the Oprah show. It was the most amazing thing. Then to search her on YouTube and see video after video of powerful performances and perfect pitch, tone, the power & emotion of her voice. Oh my. My favs: "I Have Nothing" also on Oprah, her Ellen Show appearance, "Listen" at Oscars night event, "My Grown Up Christmas List" at Rockefeller Center Christmas Special, "Halo" at Citadel Outlet, farewell "Bodyguard Medley" at DFF Concert. I have many, many more favorites actually. Charice is a singing prodigy the world has never seen. Thanks for the article.

    Loved Charice's dramatic scene in the Glee finale and her solo of the Glee original song "As long as You're There" was mind-blowing. I just bought her new singles "Louder" – "Lost the Best Thing" – "Before it Explodes" (written & produced by Bruno Mars) – "One Day" (co-written & produced by Nick Jonas). ALL are great. Charice is far & away the best vocalist of her generation!
