“Star Wars 7” actor John Boyega will play a leading role in “Pacific Rim 2” and has also revealed that he will co-produce the movie with Legendary.
Boyega confirmed via Twitter that he would be making the next movie with his company UpperRoom Productions that he founded along with his business partner. The new film sequel to the highly over-the-top original also welcomes Steven S. Deknight who directed several episodes of Angel (2003-2004), Smallville (2005-2007) and Daredevil (2015).
The film, tentatively titled “Pacific Rim: Maelstrom” will also star Max Martini with Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam according to recent casting rumors.
Released in 2013, “Pacific Rim” was a box office success and grossed $101m in the US and secured over $411m at the box office worldwide. The film was subsequently nominated at the 2014 BAFTA Awards for “Best Special Visual Effects”. Directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Idris Elba, Diego Klattenhoff and Charlie Hunnam, the original tells the story of mankind’s battle with monstrous sea creatures in an apocalyptic backdrop where the stakes for humanity’s survival couldn’t be higher.
