Johnny Depp draws crowds at Cannes Film Festival

Johnny Depp brought glamour and crazy fans together at Cannes’ Pirates of the Caribbean 4 red carpet premiere.

Critics are likely to bash the movie because in its fourth installment, the Hollywood franchise is, after all, a business.

However, Johnny’s Captain Jack Sparrow character resonates with audiences, and the film provides a fun adventurous ride, which people are looking for. It is also easy to criticize sequels because they do not bring original characters, or new stories, but continue the story of the original concept. However, in order to make a successful franchise in the first place, producer’s like Jerry Bruckheimer have to have the vision to take it through several sequels.

The film financing model is also more precarious than ever before, so sequels are more likely, because a fan base grows from the original, if successful. If Johnny Depp does Pirates 5 or 6, there is no harm in it. After all, didn’t Jackie Chan do Police Story 1-6 then remake them?
