Spacey’s commitment to British theatre was celebrated earlier this year at a gala event attended by the likes of Eddie Izzard, Annie Lennox and Sting. Spacey also received recorded tributes from Bill Clinton, director Sam Mendes and Sir Elton John praising his work. It was announced in 2013 that Kevin Spacey would seek to raise £20 million to help refurbish the theatre and ensure its financial future once he stepped down.
