Lady Gaga looks up to Madonna at Cannes Film Festival

Lady Gaga kick started the Cannes Film Festival by performing ‘Judas’ live on France’s ‘Grand Journal’ show followed by a Q and A in front of huge crowd.

The ‘Beauty Queen’ answered questions about her career and personal beliefs, including references to religion in her fashion, which was translated into French on air.

With a subdued start, and a ‘low budget’ feeling to the 64th Cannes Film Festival, Gaga’s performance was definitely a highlight for day 1.

Lady Gaga: “I wanted to be the most successful female singer. I love the tangible nature of music… I’m now the vehicle for the voice of my fans.

Responding to questions about Madonna and whether she had ‘overtaken’ her as an artist, Gaga was humbled and said she would first need another 10 to 12 albums behind her to get anywhere near that level of prestige:

“I don’t believe that. I have a very long way to go”

Gaga also revealed about her frustrations with photographers who insist on calling her Stefani, but admitted that her family and friends didn’t refer to her as ‘Lady Gaga’.

Responding to her desire to wear crazy costumes, and whether her extravagance was more for show she said.

“I am like this all the time, I always was, and I never want it to be over… I usually fall asleep in my makeup.”

“I wanted to be the most successful female singer"
not much you want do you Gaga?
How can anyone on earth say that, how can you ever be most anything but yourself.
There's no such thing as the most….
And world has legends and she just knives them in the back by saying things like that.
    Gaga you will never be:
    Madonna
    Whitney
    Mariah
and thats just few names to stay in the history of music "the grate".
and they are not the most, the best to one another, they are just gratest to have stand the time and here to stay.
When you have done that Gaga then you can open your mouth, so far you are just your "HAIR" like one of your song: I'm my hair. Long long way to go! do your thing, enjoy, while it lasts. Your next album will maybe be reduced to $0.50 until you can do it for so long to take any place in music's history.

Read the new interview with her choreographer? http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/05/laurieann-gibson-puts-lady-gaga-and-other-stars-in-step.html
She admits that she copies Madonna – but says they do it on purpose as part of… wait for it… a “movement” (excuse me?!). Lame. She is lame. Her star is gonna fade, she’s gonna get nowhere near those 11 or 12 albums!

Bullsh*t! She's 'humbling' herself because of the massive amount of criticism being levelled at her over her Madonna rip-offs! She's definitely read all the Madonna biographies that's for sure. Those of us who have known Madonna's career from the start give a sigh when Gaga comes out with yet another comment about herself which is paralleling Madonna. Still at least she's getting somewhere near the truth now about how far away she is from M's achievements tho I don't think what she says is what she really thinks. Gaga will never hold a torch to Madonna until she has proved she has the ability to stay the course, constantly reinvent herself and stop us from getting bored! As for the bit about 'I am like this all the time, I always was' referring to her ridiculous outfits, she needs to stop fabricating the past. Past peers remember her in a very different way as a relatively normal student who had a musical talent, not as an oddball who was bullied and certainly not one who wore crazy outfits. You only have to look at old photos of her or YouTube vids of her early performances. I am not a 'Gaga-hater' I bought her first album and enjoyed her music. However now I am more 'Gaga-annoyed'. I find all this fabrication intensely annoying, the outfits turn me off as they are over-the-top, a distraction, and all the recent 'weepy poor me' moments make me want to throw up! I find her 2nd album boring. So far it's all the same stuff. It will sell simply because her mainly young fan base can't see the wood for the trees. Madonna's skill is in pushing the envelope. No two albums are ever the same or similar. Madonna is the Master, always the Queen. Gaga's not even close! Madonna is unique and I really believe that no female artist will ever replicate what she has done, and is still doing. Let's remember she did it without iTunes and the like.
