The Beverly Hills Cop reboot that is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer has received a $13.5 million rebate from the Michigan Film Office.
Directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 3, X-Men: The Last Stand), the new film will star Eddie Murphy reprising his iconic role 30 years after the original 1984 movie was released, with the production shooting in Detroit and its suburbs.
The total budget of the film is estimated to be $56 million, bringing hundreds of jobs to the state of Michigan.
The Michigan Film Office released a statement shortly after the approval of the tax rebate:
“We are excited to welcome Axel Foley and the Beverly Hills Cop franchise back to Michigan…This project will highlight locations throughout metro Detroit that speak to the city’s heritage while making significant investments in the community by hiring Michigan workers and local businesses.”
- Margaret O’Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office
Beverly Hills Cop 4 is penned by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec and will also star Theresa Randle and Ronny Cox.
The scheduled release date for the new sequel is set for March 25th 2016
