Academy announces eligible films

The 2013 selection of eligible films to compete for 'Best Picture' Oscar has been announced, which includes the much loved zombie adventure 'World War Z'.

Paramount's blockbuster will officially compete against 288 feature films (if it is entered) that will then be narrowed down to a shorter list of final nominations in the 'Best Picture' category. The announcement for this will be on January 16th 2014.

Other films that have made the list include 'Anchor Man 2', 'The Bling Ring', 'Blue is the Warmest Color', 'The Hobbit : Desolation of Smaug', and 'The Great Gatsby'.

When a film gets nominated at the Oscars, producers often get a huge marketing boost from the exposure, increasing theatrical runs and sales once the film is released.
