Robert Downey Jr. injury delays Iron Man 3 production

A stunt has gone wrong

The unquestionably cool Robert Downey Jr. took his stunt work to the next level on Iron Man 3, but got injured in the process.

The actor, who has made a comeback for a 3rd sequel after his success in 'The Avengers' was injured Wednesday on set. Marvel has released a statement following the incident:

“Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.”

The fast paced action wiring and running of 'Iron Man 3' has made shooting scenes particularly difficult for Tony Stark (Downey's character).

Downey's injury is not expected to delay the production by more than a week although it is believed that he has sprained his ankle, which requires rest. When big stars get injured on set, production tends to grind to a halt unless the 2nd unit can shoot more scenes with the rest of the crew. Since Downey Jr. is the lead in 'Iron Man 3' the scenes scheduled for him have to be pushed back.
