Rock of Ages doesn’t deliver Tom Cruise numbers

‘Rock Of Ages’ starring Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta Jones and Alec Baldwin sat at 3rd place in this week’s box office chart.

With a $15.1 million haul, ‘Rock Of Ages’ struggled to topple Ridley Scott’s epic ‘Prometheus’ which raked in an additional $20 million this week. ‘Madagascar 3’ also continued to triumph with $35.5 million, coming in at number one.

The numbers are disappointing for Cruise, who often sails to the number one spot. The Hollywood actor has had his moments of triumph and disappointment in the past, but we can’t blame him for the ‘failure’ of his latest musical showcase. ‘Rock of Ages’ covers similar ground we have seen before : the small town girl pursuing her Hollywood dreams. It’s set in the 80s, we’ve seen a lot of 80s themed movie remakes recently, and maybe the audience fatigue is starting to show.

On the other hand, Ben Stiller who stars in this week’s number one was also lead actor in ‘Tropic Thunder’, which starred Cruise in a smaller role. Should both actors get together for a comedy epic?
