Rode Videomic: Review

The Rode Videmic is an entry-level, self powered condenser microphone that mounts on to DSLR cameras such as the Canon 7D and can be plugged in to a mini-jack port. Costing around £80-£90, the Rode Videomic provides users with a great quality sound on a budget (although with some background gain noise that is inevitable when not using an XLR connector)

Why we like it

After filming about 50 interviews in the past 2 years using this mic, we can safely say it works very well and the battery life is amazing. One battery will do between 20-30 hours of recording before you need to change it. Using a Canon 7D, we hook up our Video Rodemic on the top, and point it directly at our interviewees. The sound is overall good, and it does the job for an interview setting. If you are out and about, doing a report, shooting a mini-documentary or even filming some behind-the-scenes action, this is the perfect mic for you.
