Sundance Film Festival 2015 to show 717 minutes of shorts

The 2015 Sundance Film Festival will get underway today featuring a host of independent films, documentaries, short films, discussions panels and world premieres.

With over 717 minutes of short films programmed into the festival, filmmakers and audiences will have 8 curated categories to choose from including documentary and animated selections.

Every year the Sundance Film Festival welcomes thousands of filmmakers to celebrate the best independent talent and highlights powerful, thought provoking stories from across the world.

'The Little Deputy' (Canada) will play among the shorts presented by Youtube.

There will be a total of 17 American produced features screened in the 'U.S Dramatic Competition', and 12 in the 'World Cinema Dramatic competition at this year's festival.

Features including 'Stangerland' (AUS) directed by Kim Farrant and Andrew Bujalski's 'Results' starring Giovanni Ribisi and Guy Pearce will be among the contenders this year.

Z for Zachariah

Among the selected films will be Craig Zobel's 'Z for Zachariah' starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chris Pine and Margot Robbie.

Music will also play a big part of the festival, with live performances from bands and solo artists.

Among attendees this year will be Star Wars creator George Lucas, composer Harry Gregson-Williams, and festival founder Robert Redford.

Special panels will discuss trends and industry issues along with the power of story telling hosted by Emily Nussbaum, Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling and Kristen Wilg.
