“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams called terminally ill Star Wars fan Daniel Fleetwood last Wednesday to share the news that he would be granted an exclusive pre-release screening.

An online campaign was launched to help Daniel Fleetwood see the Star Wars film following a diagnosis of spindle cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, that had spread throughout his body. According to NBC, he was informed in September that he had just two months to live.

“Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true! Daniel just finished watching an unedited version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!!! We would like to thank the awesomely talented JJ Abrams for calling us yesterday to tell us Daniel was getting his wish granted!” via Facebook

Actors from the new film, to be released in December including Mark Hamill voiced their support online. A private screening was then arranged last week so that Daniel, 32, could see the film.

Daniel’s 'final dream' was granted and his wife Ashley posted an update on Tuesday saying that he had died peacefully in his sleep.

"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace.”

“Star Wars : The Force Awakens” will be released on December 18th nationwide.
