Often makeup artists don't get the credit they deserve, and it takes teams of sometimes more than 100 people to work on hairstyling and makeup for actors and extras. With big blockbusters like the Hunger Games sequel, it's easy to overlook that team, but often, what makes films stand out, is the visual appeal of its cast: The authenticity and their look, adapted to the world of the story.

AMPAS announced today the following 7 feature films would be in the running:

  • "American Hustle"
  • "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"
  • "Dallas Buyers Club"
  • "The Great Gatsby"
  • "Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters"
  • "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa"
  • "The Lone Ranger"

The official announcement will be made on January 16th following a screening on the 14th January attended by the members of the Academy's Makeup Artists and Hairstylists branch, who will review 10 minute segments of each selected film.

Congrats to all the teams contending in this category for their brilliant work. Let's see who gets into the final nomination list!
