Universal Pictures record smashed

Universal Pictures have successfully smashed through their all time highest-grossing box office record today.

The studio has had a tremendously successful year that has outpaced it's record $1 billion earnings milestone set back on November 7th, 2008. 4 years ago 'Wanted', 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Mamma Mia!' and 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' took Universal Pictures to a new high but in 2012 it's a different story.

With the release of 'Safe House', 'Dr. Seuss' The Lorax', 'Contraband', 'Snow White and the Huntsman', and 'Ted', Universal has passed the $1 billion mark 3 months early.

The studio is also on course to have it's biggest year at the domestic box office, surpassing the 2008 record thanks to one of it's biggest successes 'Ted'. The comedy directed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is also close to becoming the highest grossing R-rated comedy ever.
