Universal re-think: Kristen Stewart fan base bigger than all co-stars

Chris Hemsworth can’t carry ‘Snow White’ sequel alone

If the sequel to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ is to become a spinoff without Kristen Stewart, I don’t think it’s going to be well received without its main female lead.

Stewart is one of the biggest online actresses right now and the marketing aspect for anything related to ‘Snow White 2′ is going to be muted without her involvement.

The film grossed approximately $390 million worldwide, which is not stellar for this big release, so re-inventing it without her, I think, is not going to sustain the franchise in the way it was originally envisaged.

According to THR, Universal had originally decided to make two Snow White films with Stewart, and a third which would be a spin-off. Chris Hemswoth may be a formidable actor, and command a big following, but his success in ‘Thor’ should not be confused with that of this movie. They are two different franchises, and for me ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2′ could bring on new characters with Stewart and Hemsworth back in the sequel.

I also think that the recent hype over Kristen Stewart’s love affair is not a good reason to ditch her, if that was the case. In fact, Stewart is now ironically a bigger star thanks to this gossip which will eventually fade, and she will get back on track.

Just to add to my argument, check out the global search volume (as of this month) for the movie’s top stars. These actors are worlds apart, and Stewart is overwhelmingly ahead in first place.

well, if ruperv is directing the sequel, there is no way that kristen will do this movie. so that’s clearly a no-no for SWATH 2.

I do agree. I saw the film and she is THE MOVIE, without her the franchise will not do well. Plus she is an excellent actress and her personal life shouldn’t be bewildered with her compelling power as an actor to captivate her very strong “Twilight” fan base.

But will they see it after this fallout? I’m not so sure. I think she’s lost a bulk of the fans. And I disagree about her being the big draw. It was a combination of Theron’s evil queen and the cool CGI that drew people to theaters.

I agree with this article and the first comment that a spin-off is not going to generate a lot of money. I think the reason Snow White and the Huntsman didn’t make more was because not everyone in the Twilight fandom loves seeing Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in films in which they aren’t portraying Bella, Edward and Jacob, respectively. Kristen’s fanbase (not Twihards) are the majority of those who saw the movie but there have been her nonfans as well (I don’t mean her haters) and if her nonfans enjoyed it — which most, not all, have said they have, then a sequel (not a spin-off) will get more money than the first because of the combination of SWATH’s fans, Kristen’s fans and Chris Hemsworth’s fans.

100% correct, very few will see it without Stewart in it. love her or hate her she’s the reason it made 390 mill so far. when all dust settles she will be even hotter. bd2 will com e out in november and she’ll be back on top of popularity/adoration contest, plus imagine the worlds euphoria if Stewart and Pattinson do get back together….
