The trailers for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and 'Maleficent' have been online for a few weeks, but one film seems to have far more hype than the other.

The official trailer for 'Maleficent', released back on the 13th November gained 9.3 million views. This is an impressive total but it is far less spectacular than that of Sony's epic, and electricity filled 'Amazing Spider-man 2' trailer, that boasts more than 21 million views in just 10 days.

Both films are set for a May 2014 release, but if we were to measure the direct response to both trailers, the box office potential of 'The Amazing Spider-man 2' would be far higher than that of 'Maleficent' based on the interaction, and share ratio of each trailer.

Over the past month, Sony's trailer has been the most shared teaser on the web, outpacing 'The Hobbit 2' and 'Noah' starring Russell Crowe.

Although we are months away from the release of these films, 'Maleficent' has a significant disadvantage : It doesn't have a successful franchise of films behind it but that doesn't mean it can't be a huge success.
