William Shatner has reached out to Star Trek fans after going quiet for 24 hours following the death of Leonard Nimoy.

Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series was a close friend of Leonard Nimoy and had issued a statement shortly after his death was made public to honor him.

Since the outpouring of support, Shatner remained out of the media spotlight until the past hour where he took to Twitter to apologize for his absence.

Shatner was among other Star Trek actors who issued their condolences to the family of the late actor who inspired a generation of sci-fi geeks to think logically. Patrick Stewart who played Captain Picard in the 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' series also issued a farewell while director J.J. Abrams penned a letter and tweeted it to his fans.

Before Nimoy died, he made one message very clear, and while the actor was adored for his role in Star Trek, his parting wish may change millions of lives in the future.
