Zooey Deschanel gets first Emmys nod

Hollywood TV actress Zooey Deschanel has been nominated for an Emmy in 'New Girl'.

Playing the role of Jess Day, Deschanel has been a rising star even since she took part in Fox's comedy series, receiving critical praise for her performance. Now the actress has her first ever Emmy nomination. According to EW, Deschanel was bombarded by calls, emails, and texts this morning congratulating her as the news broke.

The young actress is nominated in the 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series' category. She will face competition from Lena Dunham, Edie Falco, Melissa McCarthy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Deschanel has also managed to enter the top 10 highest paid actress list on Forbes, coming in at 8th place with over $9 million in earnings.

This year's Emmys will be broadcast live on Sunday September 23rd 7pm Eastern.
